APR’s Charity Month 2024

It is now July and that means that we are well underway into summer of sports. However, some would say that the most important sporting event of the year has already passed us by!

‘We Care’ is one of the key values at APR; we care about our staff and what’s important to them, our clients, our local communities, and what is going on in the world. For many years now APR has held an annual charity month to raise funds for selected charities to help them in continuing their good work in our communities and around the world; and that was no different this year.

The 1st of May saw the APR Opening Ceremony light up our London, Edinburgh and Dublin offices – the teams were announced, our chosen charity introduced, and the schedule of events revealed.

The starting gun has gone, so let the games begin!

Week 1 – The APR Torch Relay

The first week asked the important question: “Can our teams travel a combined 2000km (the approximate distance of the torch relay from Athens to Marseille) by foot in a week?”

The answer to that question was yes.

The team smashed it, travelling an amazing 2695km with an average of 50.8km per individual. Special shoutouts go out to our top three performers, who each travelled over 100km in the week.

Week 2 – Sports Day

Week two fell alongside Mental Health Awareness week and we combined our sporting activities with our efforts of moving more for mental health.

Our teams took advantage of the nice weather and competed across Edinburgh, Dublin and London in their very own sports days. There were sprints, three legged races, egg and spoon races, sack races, musical statues, games of rounders, badminton, touch rugby and more.

Despite a high level of competitiveness, much fun was had, and we were all well fuelled from our #MHAW2024 picnics at lunchtime.

Week 3 – Puzzle-athon

In order to give the team’s bodies a rest after a gruelling sports day, week three sought to exercise the mind. Tensions soared as each team fought tooth and nail to be the first to answer daily cryptic puzzles to solve the final meta-puzzle.

Week 4 – Quiz Night

There was still everything to be played for in our final event, the sporting Quiz night. There was no requirement to be a sporting expert in the sporting-themed quiz (but it helped).

The Closing Ceremony

Our charity month ended in the same way as it started – with a bang.

Medals were awarded and bragging rights confirmed in our closing ceremony. The closing ceremony also allowed us to look back at the best bits of the month and remind ourselves of what our amazing achievement will do for our chosen charity.

Thank you to everyone at APR who got involved and especially the partners for their generous contributions. It is fair to say that “We Excelled”, raising an amazing £2409, which will be donated to our chosen charity for 2024, the Samaritans. The Samaritans operate across the UK and Ireland and responds to a call for help every 10 seconds!

A fantastic and fun month of events with amazing people for a very worthy cause!

‘We Care’.
